Greg Johnson - Executive Director
Gregory H. Johnson (Col, USAF, Ret.) is a former air force officer and pilot, aerospace engineer, fighter/test pilot, MBA and NASA astronaut. He is currently Executive Director of Newton’s Road and Managing Director of the Traverse City Space Accelerator, a division of Boomerang Catapult, LLC. He also serves on multiple boards in the non-profit and space sectors and is a consultant for innovation and STEM education in several networks including the Boy Scouts of America. While in the Air Force, Johnson flew numerous aircraft including the F-15E in combat operations. In NASA, Johnson was the pilot aboard Space Shuttle Endeavour on the STS-123 and STS-134 missions. After leaving NASA in 2013, Johnson served as Executive Director for the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space, a non-profit that managed the ISS National Laboratory, complementing NASA’s traditional projects to facilitate non-traditional innovation, commercial research, technology demo, and STEM education.
Barb Termaat - Development and Communications Director
Barb Termaat is the Director of Development and Communications for the non-profit Newton’s Road K-12+ STEM initiative, and education liaison for other Boomerang Catapult interests such as NMC, TC Space Accelerator and 20Fathoms tech incubator. She has a Masters in Math & Science Education from Harvard and a BS in Oceanography from UM College of Engineering. Barb is a former STEM master teacher in Germany and California, and led teams at tech companies before and after teaching. At Cisco Networking Academy, Barb led curriculum development and curriculum strategy for their Global Technology Education Program. Barb and family returned to Michigan nine years ago and resides in Elk Rapids.
Nicole McGinty - Program Manager
Nicole McGinty co-founded Newton's Road in 2011 and has a long history of volunteering in the community. In particular, she was inspired by her two sons' love for hands-on STEAM learning and has dedicated much of her free time to providing enriching learning experiences for all youth in Northwest Lower Michigan. She has served on many nonprofit boards in education and professionally, including Friends of SCI-MA-TECH and Newton’s Road. Nicole has also been a Cub Scout leader, an Odyssey of the Mind coach, and a mentor for FIRST Lego League and for FIRST Robotics teams. At robotics competitions, she has been an event coordinator and judge. Nicole has a BA from the Colorado Institute of Arts and owned and operated a commercial interior design consulting firm in Denver, CO before becoming the COO of Birch Haus kitchen and bath design in Traverse City.
Kaleb Wood - Americorps VISTA Volunteer
Kaleb Wood is an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer sponsored by the United Way of Northwest Michigan and working with Newton’s Road. He has a BS in Environmental Studies and Sustainability, and an AAS concentrated in Environmental Studies, both from NMU. Kaleb is from Cheboygan, MI, where he has been involved in volunteering through NHS, and coaching or mentoring youth sports. His most recent jobs were with the Mackinac Bridge Authority and the NMU Foundation. Kaleb is excited for the opportunity to work for Newton’s Road and keep moving its mission forward.
